New Zealand Travel Sketches 2 (of 3)

While waiting in Auckland, New Zealand for my buddy Brian to arrive from China I spent a day by myself walking around the Wynyard Quarter. I went to local shops wear they sell a lot of Maori souvenirs, and the NZ Maritime Museum. It's a really cool museum with lots of different kinds of boats and tells the maritime history of Aotearoa.

A lot of my sketches have the Sky Tower as a focal point, of course. We spent 2 nights in a hotel near the Sky Tower and then rented a car to spend a few days driving around the country.

We drove around the Coromandel Peninsula just south of Auckland. from the little I saw of the country I imagine it's all beautiful with heaving hills formed by volcano. Coromandel seems to have its own beauty that I tried to capture.

We saw quite a few of beekeeping hives that we took photos of and I made the above sketch of one in a clearing. All of NZ seems environmentally conscious, maybe because of their struggles dealing with invasive species.
